TANDBERG DATA
StorageLoader LTO-3 HH: $4,650
www.tandbergdata.com

SERIOUS ENTERPRISE DATA REQUIRES A SERIOUS AUTOMATED BACKUP solution. Tandberg’s StorageLoader LTO-3 is a 1U rackmount tape drive with up to 6.4GB of compressed capacity and 432GB per hour transfer rates. The benefit of tape storage is freedom to take archived information off-site, protecting against physical threats like theft and fire. The StorageLoader provides easy access to eight tapes using a pair of four-slot magazines. Should disaster strike and leave your customer without power, an emergency eject feature coughs up the magazines. Tandberg’s kit includes Symantec Backup Exec QuickStart to help get your customer archiving data on a regular schedule.

Use a disk-based backup solution to protect critical information regularly and an archival system like the StorageLoader to keep it safe off-site. Though the initial investment might be a bit much for smaller businesses, being able to recover from even a single disaster makes the extra effort worthwhile.

WILIFE
WiLife Pro Four-Camera Security System: $1,449
www.wilife.com

IF YOU’RE LEERY OF SELLING SECURITY HARDWARE BECAUSE OF its complexity, check out WiLife’s Security System. The four-camera kit comes with everything you need to add security to your customer’s existing Ethernet network.

Because the cameras draw their power from the Ethernet line, installation is as easy as running CAT5. Simply string a cable from an Ethernet switch to WiLife’s Power Injector and then another from the Injector to each camera. The cameras feature 400 MHz DSPs supporting motion detection, automatic discovery, and configurable networking. The system is controlled by WiLife’s Command Center software, installed on your security monitor system. The included Online Services package even lets you monitor video from the cameras remotely from any browser.

Operating four cameras requires a machine with at least a 2.8 GHz processor, close to a gigabyte of memory, and a graphics card with at least 128MB of memory. See this month’s cover story for more WiLife details.

COOLER MASTER
Real Power Pro 850W: $259
www.coolermaster.com

INTEL RECENTLY SENT US ITS newest workstation platform, based on the upcoming Xeon X5365 processor. The chips are similar to what Intel currently offers in the X5355, only running at 3 GHz and chewing up a maximum of 150W each. Multiply that by two in an eight-core machine, add in a popular workstation graphics card like NVIDIA’s Quadro FX 4600, and you have a substantial power budget.

Along with the kit, Intel bundled Cooler Master’s Real Power Pro 850W power supply. With Intel endorsing the PSU, we felt fairly comfortable recommending it as a solution for VARs building workstations on the processors available today, which peak around the 120W mark. Cooler Master rates the Real Power Pro above 85% typical efficiency with an MTBF in excess of 100,000 hours. The supply’s motherboard power connectors are complemented by no less than four six-pin PCIe connectors, eight SATA power leads, and six four-pin outputs. When you need serious power handling, the Real Power certainly delivers.

ATEN
CN5000 KVM: $649
www.aten.com

YOUR CUSTOMERS HAVE KVM SWITCHES AT THEIR OFFICES TO SIMPLIFY server control. With one console, it’s easy to fl ip between machines and check event logs or configure accounts. When you’re troubleshooting remotely, however, access isn’t always as straightforward. Aten’s CN5000 sits between the Internet, a local desktop, and your customer’s KVM switch, allowing up to 32 concurrent user accounts permission to the business’ servers.

The CN5000 communicates over standard TCP/IP, so it’s easy to reach whether you’re on-site using the LAN, at a branch offi ce accessing the WAN, or at your own office on the Internet. Of course, when you enable that much connectivity, it’s important to keep your customer protected. Aten gives its CN5000 Radius server support, password protection, up to 1024-bit RSA encryption, and automatic lockout. Thanks to Aten’s Java-based client software, you can also get into the CN5000 from almost any operating system.
